i already started a orc rogue character, when i upgrade my account to the expansions which are Burning Crusades and Wrath of the Lich King, do i have to make a new character?

me and my brother share a computer to play WoW. I just bought BC today and i tried to upgrade my account but my brother already has BC on the computer so how do i get to upgrade it when i insert cd it says play burning crusade. i don’t know what to do. and [...]
I just had my patch take forever to update today and I went to log in and my long in screen says Wrath of the Lich King. I figured it was just a promotional thing but when I tired to log in I actually went to Wrath of the Lich King and the realm options [...]
