Is it normal to pierce the nose with a piercing gun?

I heard it was a bad idea. But I know this girl who got her nose pierced 2 times with a piercing gun and it never got infected. Her nose jewelry isn’t a earring either its proper jewelry for the nose.

well piercing guns are generally bad news… they cause obscene tissue trauma and are very difficult to completely sterilize.
where exactly on the nose is the piercing? is it a septum one, or one through the bridge? or just through the outside of the nostril?

if it is a cartilage piercing of any sort then GET AWAY FROM THE PIERCING GUN! well in fact generally stay away from them….

a piercing with a needle is always preferable to a gun. a professional piercer will have far more experience than an idiot with a gun in a store.. also yeah it might hurt a little more, but at least with a hypodermic needle you can be sure that you are doing as much for your body as possible – you wouldn’t ask a doctor to operate on you with a blunt plastic scalpel with an unwashed handle would you?

and in answer to your question, it depends where you live. in my town there are many piercing studios so most people go to one of those. i feel that most nasal piercings are done in a studio – if i were weilding a gun i would want to stay only with ears.

I don’t know if normal is the word I would use. It happens, but it’s definitely not advisable. Just because hers didn’t get infected doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea. Having it done by a professional, not some teenager at the mall, with a sterile needle is the way to go.

It is actually a bad idea. I know two friends who had their noses pierced. One got her nose pierced with a needle at a piercing parlor and my other friend got her nose pierced at some jewelry shop but with a gun. What I noticed was a difference between their piercings. My friend who did her piercing with the needle is not infected. My other friend who did her piercing with the gun has a small pimple surrounding the nose stud, which doesn’t look good and is infected. So, I suggest a nose piercing with a needle even though it hurts, but the pain is worth it.

Don’t do that! It’s also bad to do it that way with the ear cartilage. It will create a bump and with the nose cause it to bleed or rupture from force.
The only way it should be done is with a piercer and a needle.

I was told all the things people have posted here, but I did it anyway, I pierced a friends and my mother in laws noses this way as well. And there were no problems. I did not have any bumps in my nose or any bleeding. you need to use a brand new sterile piercing gun and new sterile jewelery. And take all the precautions of cleaning and care and it should go fine. Once pierced you should change from the piercing earring to a regular nose ring. Do not leave the backing in your nose. There will be swelling. Good luck
