My husband and I are making smoked salmon and smoked chickens as gifts for my dad and two brothers, who are having a shared birthday party this weekend. They all three "have everything" and so good smoked meats seem like the best gifts to give. How should I go about packaging them?
Chickens are easy to smoke and I know how I will do those. Should I brine the salmon first for best flavor-longer shelf life?

I recently figure out in my cosmetics that Clinique, although it’s dermatologically tested, doesn’t put the saying "against animal testing" or so on its products. Besides Bodyshop, what else the cosmetic producers we consider concern to the animal life and thus deserved to be supported by animal lovers?
I would like to compare them with the rules/regulations in place at the local shelter here. I think something is not quite legitimate about it. I know four people who have applied for different dogs recently; all were turned down for various reasons. None have any history of animal abuse/neglect, all are (as far as I know) responsible, loving pet owners. All had references, a vet., etc. I would like to compare other known rules/regulations regarding adoption with other animal shelters. This shelter just reopened recently. It was closed for awhile for unknown reasons. One friend was told the puppy she applied for had been transfered to another shelter, then they told her the puppy was adopted. By this time we became suspicious, so we checked on the web, only to find out that the puppy was now at another "no-kill" shelter which rescues dogs before they are euthanized. This has raised a lot of questions.
***A 23-year old Serbian man was found dead and half-eaten in the bear cage at the Belgrade Zoo during an annual beer festival, reports Reuters.
"The man was found naked, with his clothes lying intact inside the cage. Two adult bears, Masha and Misha, had dragged the body to their feeding corner and reacted angrily when keepers tried to recover it," said Reuters.
"There’s a good chance he was drunk or drugged. Only an idiot would jump into the bear cage," zoo director Vuk Bojovic told Reuters.
Local media reported that police found bricks, stones, beer cans and several mobile phones inside the cage. Local media speculated the man might have fallen into the bear enclosure from the wall of a restaurant located just above the zoo. It was not immediately clear if the man’s inital injuries were sustained from the fall or were inflicted by the animals,according to the Associated Press***
I mean wtf? How did all those mobile phones get in there? Did he take off his clothes himself?
He’s not in a tank. He’s in an open "rubber maid tub" with a big wired covering. The substrate is play sand, wood shavings and top soil. It’s not humid at all. I like this habitat because it allows air to flow but I worry about the lack of humidity and heat.

This is a common science fiction theme. If you watch Stargate Atlantis,humans ran into a race of vampire-like beings in another galaxy called the "Wraiths" who love to dine on the human life force until the human dies of old age. How would you prove to them that you are more than a cow or chicken and that you are a member of the human race and you are not a food source. This Q is currently being explored by the series.
Consider this in the philosophy context as a moral problem and a metaphysical problem. I’m not looking for infantile comments.
This is a thought experiment in philosophy. Since religions have theologies which are religious philosophies, I can welcome theologically based answers but they have to be very clear, reasoned answers that go beyond simply proselytizing their religious beliefs in oder to win BA from me.
Can someone please answer this for me, I have this question in science and I am not sure what the answer is?! Please, I hope someone can help me out with this one… And "Why do we need to eat?"
