I have been riding for about two years and am an advanced begginer to novice intermiediate rider. If I get a horse my friend said I could keep it at her pasture for free. I have also been taking care of my neighbors three horses for about 1 year. I can’t ride any of them though so I want my own.
My horse poops on the outside edge of his stall with his first option being in his feed trough. Sometimes he poops in it when he has finished eating sometimes right on top of the feed. Any suggestions?
This horse has been put up out of pasture within the last week. It was a problem before when he was stalled as a colt. He gets plenty of exercise and cleans his feed most of the time. I have placed a trough in the floor of the stall and have used it rather than the one mounted on the inside of the stall. I was just curious if others have had this problem.
If I want to milk 20 head of dairy cows, how much land will I need for pasture, plus land to grow corn etc. And what crops will I need to grow to feed them. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks
Can a cow live outside the whole winter or do they need to be let inside a barn once in a while? if they do then how often and what requirements are there for temp. and other things? the same questions for horses? and can they be in the same pasture or free-stall barn?
We are thinking about getting a few jersey cattle but don’t want to have to milk them. We want to turn them out into the pasture.
We are planning on breeding them. But after we wean them we don’t want to milk them.
I’ve seen tons of people exaggerate the amount of time and care you need to own a horse. I know plenty of people who own pasture horses that require little maintenance. I am looking into buying a horse and I need realistic answers. One horse. It will be a pleasure horse that will be ridden probably every other day and live in a pasture. And additional information you can provide me with about caring for a horse is welcome
She is two years old and will not be on pasture for a few more weeks. At this time, she is nursing two three week old lambs.
How many flakes of hay ( minimum) should she get for the whole day ? Also, how much all breed grain ?
Not a race horse or anything, just a pasture, ride everyonce in a while horse.
I would feed grain and hay. I may not be able to keep it on pasture all the time.
It is a neutered male I would be keeping for a pet.
I might be getting a horse and I’m wondering how to get fresh water to a horse in a pasture in the winter. We will probably get a heater for the trough, but how do you get water down there? We have a water faucet by the pasture, but is it OK to use that in the winter or does it freeze? Will I have to fill up a bucket at the house and bring it down to the pasture? Please help!
