I found several examples where when contrasted to a human, animals have a spiritual meaning like the ant is a worker, the horse symbolizes strength, sheep a believer, etc. There seems to be many more – dogs, pigs, hedgehogs, lion, etc.

Why and what is the symbolism of animals in ancient holy writings

I am writing a story about humanoid animal people (lion people) and one falls in love with a human female (her people eat these lion people and she wants to protect this one creature. (The animal humanoids speak telepathically to one another but can’t speak to humans). How can I make this animal character attractive to her, and make frustration for both on being together despite not being able to talk to each other except by emotions and body language?
